Korean eats food with spoon basically. They don’t hold bowls with hand and it means bad manner. On the table, there are usually a spoon and chopsticks. Chopsticks are for side menu. When eating, they almost use spoon. Rice is served in a plate made of aluminum so the plate gets hot and not easy to hold it. But spoon is the best way to eat.
If you order main dish, rice, soup and kimuchi are served together. Then they don’t use extra dish or extra chopsticks so much. They take side dishes directly by their own and put them on the rice. Between you and your similar person, they put their spoons into dish pots.
When they are eating, ladies are permitted to raise their knee, the other hand men blow one’s nose can’t be permitted to put their hands in their pocket. It isn’t breach of manners. But if you want to blow your nose, you must not do it on the table even though eat spicy food.
I summarize the table customs.
(1) Don’t use chopsticks and chopsticks before oldest person.
(2) Finish your meal before oldest person eat finish.
(3) Don’t talk too much when eating
(4) Sipping your sake.
I think Korean opposite to Japan, I like Japanese way.
